“Just when you thought you were getting comfortable with UltraHD 4K, NHK, the Japanese broadcaster, is moving fast to implement 8K broadcasting; with over-the-air trials to begin in Japan in 2016. The camera was shown at the NAB Show in prototype form.
At its recent Open House, NHK showed the new 8K AH- 4800 camera head, co-developed with Tokyo-based
AstroDesign, Inc., which is much lighter and more compact than previous models. It has a 2.5inch, 33-megapixel “single plate” CMOS image sensor and processing circuitry in a 125(W) x 125(H) x 150(D) mmhousing (about five inches square). Total weight, with lens, is said to be 4.4 pounds and it captures pristine images at up to 60 frames per second.“
